| Grants to purchase a house

I have heard that there are grants, that you can get to purchase a home for a rental and also to fix your own home. Does anyone know if this is correct or if I am wasting my time.
I would be willing to rent to low income families if that would help in getting the grant.
I just think that is one of those sounds to good to be true things.Thanks for your input.
