| Re: hiring a professional fundraising consultant

Hi Beth, I agree with Carl. There is much, much work to be done before this rural org. begins a campaign to raise funds. They need to start small and work up to such a large task. I live in a state with a lot of rural areas and many of my clients are rural based. One of the first things I offer is Board Training. This is often the first training for any of the boards and they have no idea what a board is supposed to do or how to do their jobs as a board. No one "volunteers" to do a bad job, they want to do good work, but often don't have a clue. So, perhaps a board training would be a good first step. That could be combined with a stratgic planing session which would be very useful too. This way, they can learn their jobs or tasks, how to better do their jobs and best of all, look at their agency past, where they are now, where they want to be and how best to get there. I do these combined trainings a lot and they are always benefical. Pitch that idea and see what happens. If they are serious and want to do a good job and raise that money in the future, they will realize the value of such training and/or instruction. Good luck. Take care. Diane
