| Re: Grantwriters - Do you enjoy grantwriting?

I love my work. I use everything I have in this work: all of the accumulated skills, work experiences, relationships, ethics and belief system, personality traits and talents. Can you keep 20 balls in the air at the same time without any of them dropping? Can you advance a dozen things incrementally at the same time? Do you see the long winding path that gets you where you need to be? Do you have the confidence to hold your ethical ground and the salesmanship to sway others to your way of thinking? Are you open-minded and without ego about your compositions? Are you both creative and pragmatic? Zealous and passionate, but with your feet firmly grounded? Do you understand and respect the special role of grantmakers in the process and your responsibilities to them? And can you deliver a consistent return (on the bottom line) on the investment in your salary or fees? It all comes down to knowing who you really are to know if you'll enjoy this work. If you truly love your fellow man and believe you are Your Brother's Keeper, grantwriting is a soul-satisfying occupation. I know I am very content, deep down, in my work. (Of course, I did this for 20 years as a VOLUNTEER for FREE before starting my consulting firm, so how can I not love work I would do without pay??)
