I have most enjoyed working with a human service organization who has a clear development policy, which helps ensure that (in most cases) research, staff and resources are allied towards improving services. It makes grant development pleasurable. This is in contrast to some agencies who know they want more money but don't know exactly how to incorporate grants into the development strategy. My least enjoyable period was working for a consultant firm and we had to handle 12+ clients at one time, all with different interests and capacity to handle grants development. It was very disconcerting.
