Hi William,
My heart broke reading that post. The love that you had for your sweet Jim was so apparent in what you wrote and I know Jim was so lucky to have great parents in you and Lisa. It is not possible to see it now, but you will eventually be able to see that you gave Jim the most loving gift you could. Jim loved you guys and I can assure you that it brought him immense comfort having you with him when he needed you the most. Jim didn't want to have to leave you behind with the pain you are experiencing but he knew you'd be able to put his best interests and well-being above your own sense of grief. It is completely normal to live with the "what if's", but trust me when I tell you that you did everything you could to protect your little boy. You gave him years of love and got him the medical attention he needed. And most importantly you were able to let him go when it was time to say goodbye. There never seems to be enough time that we get to share with these special angels... they come into our lives, steal our hearts, and before we know it, they are gone. But I firmly believe that we are better people for having known unconditional love like that, even if it is for just a brief time. It may not seem like it now, but one day you will be able to look back on those last few weeks when you took extra care to spoil your boy and cherish the moments you shared and you will be able to smile at the memories. Until then, let the tears flow freely and talk about it as much as you need to. We are great listeners and we are here when you need us.
Thinking of you and Lisa at this very difficult time...
Stephanie
