Dear William,
I am so very sorry for your loss. Your Jim was such an important part of your life, and I know you are hurting right now.
You are doubting yourself right now, wondering how you could have protected your boy from cancer, but I think you know that there really was nothing you could have done. Certainly not to prevent it...sadly, those things really are out of our hands. But what's important to remember is that you DID do all the right things during Jim's life with you. You loved him. And you made sure that he had the care he needed, and also, most painful of all, you made the unselfish decision to let him go when it was time.
I know right now that there really isn't much comfort in that thought, but by letting him go, you were saving him from further pain. Instead, it is you and Lisa who are left with the pain of losing him.
In these early days of grief, it is hard to remember the good times you shared with your beloved Jim. Of course, the most recent months are what is foremost in your mind. But please, for what it's worth, know that someday, the happy memories of your time together will bring you joy, not just sadness.
I'm sending you and Lisa a big hug. And I'll send a special thought up for your precious Jim. He's at peace now, and he's no longer in pain.
You were very brave and loving to have let him go.
We're here if you need us.
Laurien
