Hi Suzan,
I am so very sorry to hear about Jippy. I have been thinking about you wondering how things were going with you guys. You are right though... Jippy is in a much better place now where he is young and free from pain. He is definitely waiting to greet you and his sister at the Rainbow Bridge when it is time to be reunited. And don't worry, he is not alone... all of our babies have greeted him with open paws! I can honestly say that I completely understand what you said about Jippy distancing himself near the end. I think that was part of the signs that my dog Rocky gave me when he was ready. He was always such a cuddler, wanting to be as close to me as possible but then he started wanting to be alone all the time. He actually isolated himself in my bathroom, away from everyone. It was heartbreaking and I would get him to come out but like you said, he just kept going back. It seems like Jippy was telling you he was ready and I know he was so grateful that you were able to put his needs first, even knowing how hard it would be to say goodbye to your dear friend. Most importantly, Jippy was surrounded by those he loved the most. I think it's completely normal for you to be feeling the pain more now that a couple days have passed. It's like we're in shock at first... these precious babies have been a part of our lives for so long that it takes some time to sink in that they are no longer there. Jippy is still around you though... I'm sure he's looking out for you and his sister too!
I think it's a great idea for you to come to our meeting on the 25th... we would definitely love to meet you in person. And you're right that some people just don't understand how deeply affected we are by the loss of a pet. Jippy was so much more than a dog, he was a member of your family and we completely understand that.
Take as much time as you need to grieve and know that in time, your tears will eventually be replaced by smiles when you think about all the happy memories you have of your little boy. It may take some time, but you will get there, trust me. By the way, how is your other dog coping with the loss of Jippy?
We are here if you want to talk and we look forward to seeing you next weekend.
Thinking of you...
Stephanie
