It has been 5 years since I last posted here. Yesterday, i had to put my beloved dog of 13 1/2 years down. On Monday, she was laying on the living room floor unable to move. At first I thought she ate something she shouldn't have...she's done that before. She couldn't or wouldn't get up to go outside. My kids couldn't get her out either. My son stayed home with her all day, and she would move.....but did finally manage to get herself up on the couch. When I got home, she was laying there, hot to the touch, green puss oozing from her eyes, her ears were bright red. I took her to the vet and she stayed the night on fluids and antibiotics. She did not improve. In the morning the vet called to say that she wasn't any better and pooed and peed during the night and didn't move out of the mess. the poo was dark black and like tar. The vet said that it was most likely a tumor of some sort in the upper, small intenstine and she was bleeding internally. She was in a great deal of pain. I rushed over with the kids, and she just perked up and tried to get up as soon as she saw me. It broke my heart to see her like that. We spendt the next half hour or so saying goodbye to her. I held her head in my arm, she licked my arm and layed her head down and did this a couple of times. The vet gave her the injection and she died peacefully in my arm.
I miss her terribly and can't even bring myself to vacuum her fur that is on the carpet. She still has food in her dish.
