Dear Pam,
I am so very sorry to hear that Cuddles is gone. I've been thinking of you all day.
I'm glad you were able to be with her at the end, and that you got to say your goodbyes. These early days are so difficult, but please, please know that you did the most loving thing you could do for Cuddles. You're right, prolonging their lives is really only for our benefit, not theirs. It is a wonderful thing that you did for your darling girl, as much as it may not feel like it right now.
I too had my Poubelle cremated. To be honest, I felt the same way you did about it, but when Poubelle died so unexpectedly in his sleep, I didn't know what I wanted to do. I looked on the Oakville Humane Society website, and found out they did private cremation, so I decided then and there that that's what I would do.
I have his ashes in a lovely urn with a brass name plaque on it, and I had them leave the urn unsealed. When Chaussette, my other cat, someday has to leave us, my intention is to have their ashes combined, so that they can be together again.
I know you're hurting right now Pam, and I'm so sorry for that. We are here for you though, in whatever way we can be.
Hugs,
Laurien
