Thank you Stephanie and Laurien. I appreciate your kind words. It helps so much to hear from people that know exactly what to say.
We saw our sweet girl today. When we got there she recognized us and greeted us. She purred loudly when we pet her. She is in a cage and her paw is hooked up to an IV. The IV fluids seemed to have given her energy that she didn't have yesterday. The doctor showed us her x-rays, and there is a huge mass on her liver. He said that he didn't think it was time to put her to sleep today, but that her prognosis is poor. He said the best case scenario is that we might be able to take her home and she might live for a few weeks or a month or two. We are hoping that that is the case. She looked a lot better today. She had some of her spunk back. She was happy and not in pain. She even nuzzled both of our noses which she hasn't done since she got sick. The vet said her quality of life is good as long as she continues to eat. The nurse said that she has been a great cat there. She said that she has never seen a cat with an IV in her paw in a cage there purring and talking to everyone before.
I've been crying all night, because I know that even if she comes home with us her time is running out. It kills me to think of her dying. We both don't know how we are going to live without her. She is a small cat, but has such a huge presence. Our other cat is being a good friend. He isn't a cuddler. He is the kind of cat that will sit next to you, or with you in the same room. He has been so affectionate and attentive since last night. He knows something is wrong, but hasn't yet realized that his partner might never be coming home.
I'm sorry for babbling on and on. Thank for letting me share my grief here.
