I was awoken Christmas morning by my wife, who cried something's wrong with Thespus. I ran to find our 20 year-old cat dead on the stair landing. She had a long healthy happy life. Yet, she was with me for those 20 years since she was a kitten. She showed signs of slowing down but she was still playful with me and I was not as strong as I thought I'd be.
Due to work deadlines, raising a daughter and the hectic schedules at this time of year I didn't spend as much time with her as I used to. It pains me to think that she may have died thinking I didn't need her anymore.
My 3 year-old daughter keeps asking what happened and our 16 year-old remaining cat seems lost.
I've lost pets before but Thespus' death seems to have affected me deeply. I never thought someone so small could leave such a huge hole in my heart.
