Nicolle,
I also just wanted to let you know that I am thinking about you at this difficult time. I could relate so well to your post... In February of this year, I had my beloved dog Rocky put down, just a few weeks after he had celebrated his 18th birthday. And like you, I had never known life without him... I got Rocky when I was just 8 years old. I know that you are dealing with extreme feelings of guilt but I just wanted to tell you that it is completely normal... making that decision almost inevitably leaves some "what if's" in your mind when you struggle to decide if you did the right thing. Like Laurien said, you made the toughest decision but it was the decision that was best for your baby. Bandit is so thankful that you were able to put his needs above your own feelings of not wanting to let him go. I think that so often, many people prolong making that decision because they can't bear the thought of losing their dear friend but in the end, the most selfless thing you could have done was let Bandit go. He knows you love him and he is so happy to have been able to grow up with you as his buddy. Just know that you are not alone in this and we would love to hear more about Bandit if you ever feel like sharing. I found it really helpful to talk to people on this board when I lost Rocky. It's nice to know that other people understand what you're going through.
Take Care.
Stephanie
