I am so very sorry about the loss of your beloved Bandit.
You and Bandit had such a long and wonderful life together...and I know it must have been very difficult for you to make the decision to let him go. But what a brave and loving thing you did for him...you let him go. It is so hard to make a decision like that, but you made it out of love, and you can never go wrong when love is the guide. Rather than let him suffer, or go through tests, and constant vet visits, you let him go peacefully. Please don't feel as though you took his life...you set him free, which is a very loving thing to do.
You had almost 18 years together, and while I know it is never long enough, someday, when you are feeling a bit better, you will have 18 wonderful years of memories that are yours to cherish for always.
I am glad that you are starting to feel a bit better. There is no time frame to draw on here...we all grieve as long as we need to. For some, the process is much faster than for others.
If it helps any, I cried myself to sleep for a long time after my cat died. And then one day, I thought about him, and I smiled. That's when I knew I was getting there.
Any time you want to chat, we're here. We've all been where you are and will do what we can to help you through this.
We'd love to hear all about Bandit when you feel ready to share some of your memories with us.
I don't know if you are in the GTA area or not, but if you are, there are also support group meetings every month that can be a wonderful source of support. The link at the top of the page will take you to where the info on the meetings is.
