Hi Wanda,
I am so sorry to hear about Toby. I cannot imagine how hard this is for both you and your son. While your son is feeling so much guilt surrounding this tragic accident, I am sure you are feeling a great deal of stress as well in trying to help your son deal with his emotions while also mourning the loss of your beloved cat.
I know that Toby loved you and your son very much and what Terry said is very true... you just have to keep reassuring your son that it was not his fault and that Toby does not hold this against him. Toby knew how much you guys loved him and that you would never hurt him intentionally.
All I can say is that it will get better in time, you just have to let the grieving process take its course. It's different for everyone so don't try to rush it. I know when I lost my dog that I found it very comforting to talk to people on this message board who understood the unimaginable pain and sadness that comes with losing a dear friend and family member. Take comfort in the time you had with Toby and I hope that your memories of him will help ease the pain in time. If you ever feel like telling us more about Toby, we always love to listen!
Thinking about you and your son...
Stephanie
