Hi Hayley,
I just wanted to say how sorry I am for your loss of Farley. I had to put my dog to sleep in February so I know how difficult that decision can be. Rocky was 18 years old when I lost him and I had some time to prepare for it in a way since I knew he was having health problems. I can't imagine how much harder that decision was for you since it was so much more suddenly that you had to make that choice. Even though I knew it was coming, it didn't make it any easier and I still battled with intense feelings of guilt over it. This first few days and weeks will be the most difficult and that is completely normal. Everyone deals with the loss of their pet differently and don't ever feel like you should deal with the pain and grieving in a certain amount of time. It's different for everyone. I know one thing that helped me a lot at first was collecting all my photos of Rocky and making a scrapbook of all of them as a tribute album to him. It was difficult but it was also very therapeutic. You might not feel ready to do that right now but it's just something to think about.
We would love to hear more about your beloved Farley if you ever feel like sharing any memories of him.
My thoughts are with you. Personally I found this message board really helpful and I hope it can help you like it's helped so many others dealing with the same sense of loss.
Stephanie
