We had to say goodby to our wonderful Russ on Tuesday morning. He just went downhill so rapidly. He refused food Monday at supper and throughout the night he began panting and pacing. He lost bowel and bladder control and then lay on his bed, too weak to move, so we took him to the vet for the final time. I guess his disease was more advanced than anyone realized. I am just so grateful that he was still such a happy dog even the day before he died. We even had our usual walk and he was still enjoying his food as much as ever. He didn't know he was sick until the last few hours. He was a sweet, gentle, really special friend. I sure hope there is dog heaven because he sure deserves to be there. I miss him so much.
