Dear Elizabeth
I am so sorry for the news you have had about your Sophie, especially along with everything else that is going on. I am saddened that your vet is making you feel guilty when they should be supportive and understanding.
As you said, if we all lived in la-la land and everything was rosy and perfect and money was never any issue, then your decision would be an easier one. Given all the other health issues that your Sophie has, it is an especially difficult situation.
Elizabeth, no one CAN make the decision for you but maybe if you go to the link below and read the article there, it may give you some insight. If you have supportive friends and family you can talk to, you might want to do that too.
I don't know where you are located geographically, Elizabeth, but if you want to email me your location, then maybe you could talk to someone at a support group or a pet loss hotline. If you are in the Halton/Peel/GTA area you are welcome to attend our meeting on Saturday and maybe some of the people there may be able to offer you suggestions from their own experiences. You can always contact us by telephone (click on the link at the top of the page for our phone numbers) and we will call you back as soon as possible.
You said that your Sophie has had a wonderful life with you and your son and I know you only want to do what is best for her, and feasible for you. Because finances are an issue does not mean that you don't care, Elizabeth. Don't let your vet, or anyone else, make you feel that.
Elizabeth, you, your son and your Sophie will be in my thoughts and prayers.
Thinking of you,
Terry
