Posted by Mary Although she is a senior, I've only had the pleasure of her company for 1 year. Before that she'd she spent about six months in the Humane Society. I didn't even go there to get a dog but we connected and i came home with this lovely 80 pound sheppard/border collie mix (picture a large black sheppard with fabulous spotted snow leopard legs and a racoon tail!) Although I knew full well what bringing home an older dog meant, I did not know that she'd sneak so completely into my heart. I am completely shell-shocked by the amount of pain and grief I feel as well as a bit appaled by the general lack of understanding and glib remarks I've encountered. Please say a prayer that this bleed stops and she'll be my happy old girl for a wee while longer.

My good old girl, Khanna, is dying from malignant mast cell tumors that have spread to her spleen. She is 12 years old and due to the spread of the cancer, surgery is not an option. My vet got her on some medication that offered some good symptomatic relief and she was really frisky and well again for about two weeks. However, the last couple of days have been getting steadily worse. The sparkle in her eyes is becoming clouded over and I know in my heart that that if she doesn't feel better by tomorrow that she's begun to bleed out. That means I'll need to carry out the final step of having her put to sleep. 68
