After reading this months Trains magazine article on the "New Mineral Range' in the U.P., it almost sounds as though a lot of folks up there like the return to quietness as the amount of trains have dwindled over the years. Where would they go anyway? The only actual fully functional rail line across there would be the CN line across the bottom of the U.P. and about the only thing going tourist wise would be Sault St. Marie. Mackinaw/St. Ignace is now at least 27 miles from the nearest piece of CN mainline. Nice to dream, but I'd guess this is not a idea even worth getting ga-ga about. Lot's of $$$ just to upgrade the tracks, PTC install, and CN wouldn't even hear of it anyway. Maybe when everyone is driving electric cars, and many are stranded on the ice/snow covered winter roads up there out of battery life...aw, never mind.
