I'm always asking meeself that same question "Wouldn't it make sense...." when it comes to rail. For me it's the continual trek of LP trucks between N. MI dealers and somewhere east of here in Lapeer that I see on I-69 in winter. Haul 'em all up by rail to, say, Gaylord, Alpena, TC, etc. Then transload them. 4 immediate benefits come to mind. Heck, Bowman's et. al. in da YOOP does it and they don't have anywhere near the population base that is in the N. lower. But what do I know. As far as the paper mill maybe it's a consistency thing where at one end or the other the cars are waiting longer therefore taking them out of revenue service longer then the owner cares.
