Ballasting had started a couple of days before according to Greg and the ballast dumping was starting at the state line and was working south. I finally ran into the south edge of the ballast dumping near CTY N west of Niagara, WI. No train in sight though. Headed north toward Channing. At Randville I got off of 95 to check out the wood loading there and saw headlights headed north. The 1344 went rolling past with 10-12 empty ore jennies for reload with ballast at Groveland Mine. Got a shot a the 1344 moving along smartly just south of Sagola:

Went north to Channing but not surprisingly nothing was moving there. Went back south to Merriman to wait for the ballast loads to head back south but ran out of time and had to head back the Green Bay.
At Pembine a crew had arrived and fired up the 1338. When I arrived the 1338 was rolling along the wood yard siding and the conductor was getting car numbers. As Greg had mentioned, some new switches had been installed in Pembine. Here is a shot of new crossover switches in Pembine:

Good trip. Wish I had more time but at least I took my first shot of the ELS in the U. P.
