Trout Lake Job is now based out of Newberry. There is a Munising job that goes to Munising first day, then returns next day. They work a 6/2 schedule which rotates, so they don`t have a regular same days off. Then there is a local that goes to work at Newberry and runs to Trout Lake daily, Mon thru Sat. I know this as I retired from the Munising Job in 2010. I still keep in touch with both the crews. Munising job engineer and conductor still live in SSM. Newberry crew , Engineer lives in SSM, conductor lives in Marquette. According to both crews, they get canceled a lot if they are short on the extra board in Gladstone, when one of the crew is on vacation or PLD`s
The Gladstone to SSM jobs are, 1st runs to Kinross doing the short work, goes to work at like 2359 at Gladstone, the crew that went to the SSM the day before goes to work at around 1100 at the Soo depot, gets their paper work and cabs to Kinross returns train to Gladstone doing short work. The 2nd job goes to work at Gladstone in am(1100) runs straight to the Soo and into Sault Ontario. Then returns to Sault Mich with a train and the crew that brought the train to Kinross earlier that day will take this train back to Gladstone. It`s all set up for the 10 hour rest periods. There are also some times when the Kinross crew will tie up at Trout Lake, such as when there is no scheduled work at Kinross. Hope this helps you out.
Back in the WC days we had the jobs based out of SSM. One train to Gladstone, one train from Gladstone to SSM. We did ALL the short work on both trains, plus delivered to AC & CP, 12 hours and a cab ride!
