This is a modified ballast regulator with the optional snowplowing modifications. The front plow is self-explanatory. The side boxes that normally dress up the ballast shoulder as Doktor No described have been replaced with a mini-wing for pushing snow away from the track. The rotating broom at the rear in this application can sweep snow out of switches and road crossing flangeways. The SP on Donner Pass used this set-up in lieu of flangers and Jordan spreaders plus locomotives until the snowfall exceeded the smaller machine's capacity.
