On the back is a broom for cleaning off the ties and sweeping away excess ballast. Underneath is a turntable that extends down to the rail to jack the unit up and turn it around. The things on the side are ballast contour shapers that fold downward. Makes a nice clean edge to the stone and pulls it up into the end of the ties.
