Floodwood - prior use?

This news about the activity at the Floodwood siding on the ELS has me wondering what it was used for back in the day (Milwaukee Road). It looks like a rather short siding - perhaps 20 car-lengths. Anybody know what it was used for when it was last used, and when that might have been? Satellite image shows what might have been a good sized staging area at one time.
(sorry if this question belongs on the history board - seems appropriate here given the conversation)
If you're like me and trying to find Floodwood on the satellite map, try searching for "Floodwood Lakes Sagola, MI", scroll east to the grade, and look for the communications tower. The siding is barely visible through the weeds on the east side of the mainline.
