No, they wanted to to save fuel, but in a lot of cases, even 4400 HP is not enough with our hills. Also the only place we can Y an engine is at Eagle Mills. The only time we really used a single engine was when we were switching Ferrel Gas. The only reason we did was the tracks were so bad they were afraid the couldn't handle the weight of two engines. And we were switching fully loaded propane cars! We used to joke that if you saw a mushroom cloud over Negaunee you knew the Ferrel switch didn't work out. We don't switch Ferrel any more and no one misses it.
