You sure about the Centennial Mine or were they working a rock pile? I went to Tech from Sept of 68 to June of 72. C&H went on strike in August so I never saw an operating mine while I was there. My internet search shows the Centennial closed in 1966. I did peek thru the cracks in the walls of the Quincy Smelter and saw the copper ingots from the reprocessed stamp sand being loaded in box cars. According to my search on the Quincy, the smelter closed in 1972. I did a lot of exploring of the shut down mines with a few friends in 69, 70 and 71 always looking over our shoulders for C&H security. It was a little scary and I was very cautious because very few if any of the "active" shafts had been capped at that point.
