The city manager of Houghton had the tracks thru Houghton paved over so quickly that everything was left in place under the asphalt. At that time there was a committee trying to restore rail service to the Copper Country and he wanted to make sure that no train would pass thru his town!
Later I saw plans drawn up to build a pulpwood landing south of US-41 in Chassell where the drive-in theater used to be.The same person mentioned above rallied folks against that, too, even though it was not even near his city. Alas, all that is left is BC161's pictures.
