WHITE PINE - Tests are promising for a return to mining at White Pine, according to Traxys Power Group vice-president Mike Reid.
Reid said Thursday the tests show copper/silver bearing material can be processed at the White Pine site and that could lead to as many as 400 jobs there. "With all the recent exploration and drilling programs for copper in the Upper Peninsula, White Pine shows the potential to become a viable asset again, with the processing of underground ore and custom treating copper-bearing materials from other sites," Reid said in a news release.
He said the White Pine Copper Refinery has been conducting tests on copper-bearing material "over the last couple of months."
Reid said, "We're using the existing processes and equipment in which the copper material is digested into an aqueous solution. Once optimum levels are achieved, the solution is filtered and processed through an electro-winning plant called the EMEW."
