Frac sand, perhaps?

If the sand is coming all the way from western Wisconsin, there's a good chance that it's "frac sand" used in hydraulic fracturing for natural gas extraction. Maybe they're doing hydraulic fracturing in the natural gas beds of northern lower peninsula now and are trucking it from Trout Lake across the bridge or using the ship to deliver it to Rogers City or somewhere around there. Frac sand has very specific size/shape requirements. I think I've seen mention of it being shipped by rail from sand mines in western lower peninsula on the Lower Michigan Railroads board.
