Aloha! I was on assignment for a few months on the Hawaiian Islands late last year and was afforded the opportunity to catch the 3' gauge Hawaiian Railway in action one warm sunny Sunday afternoon on the southwest side of Oahu. The HR Society runs 2 trains on Sundays only from Ewa to Kahe Point & return. This is a remnant of the formerly expansive Oahu Rail & Land Co. system. Additionally, the US Army & Navy had their own 3' rail system on the island to serve the many bases that were here.
The HRS has 2 operable 45 ton Whitcombs to pull their coaches, which were built on former US Army/Navy flatcars. I thought I'd share a few pics of the warm weather action with all of you in the midst of our northern winter, mild as it is...
