I remember when my folks rented a cottage for the summer at the north end of Lake Gogebic, this was in the early to mid fifties, the DSS@A main ran right behind the cottage. There was a suprising amount of traffic, with actual meets done right there. The ran a variety of power, the ones that stick in my mind were center cab Baldwins, don't know the model. We alway placed pennies and stuff like that on the rail to see how they would be flattened. Ah, the good old days, but not so good for my mother who had to cook on a wood range and contend with an ice box (not a refrigerator).
