PUSSEYS! Try doing it 5 days a week for a few years and you will KNOW why winter railroading sucks. It has its rewards...or I wouldn't be doing it but the older one gets the rewards become somewhat jaded to say the least. I do the yard here in GRR so it isn't as bad but try riding a boxcar from one end to the other with a 25 MPH wind in your face when its 5 above. Or dig out switches for one move then have to do it agion just to go the other way AGAIN. No fun at all.
One thing I noticed this week Wednesday and Thursday in the rain, DARN few railfasn watching us switch. Rain, drizzle and 38 degrees is my understanding of miserable. But what the heck it gives me a great living and for the most part I still enjoy it. What I always wanted to do since I was 5 years old and wouldn't trade it for anything...cept maybe in the next life I'd like to do a great lakes freighter job. Who knows?
