The conductor has to clean switches if the section gang hasn't got there, he gets to slog in knee deep snow to do a brake test, walk his train, switch cars, deal with frozen switch locks etc. If it's a passenger excursion with working water system toilets, he gets to fight frozen valves, pipes etc. Oh, the fond memories
. I worked an excursion with 1225 one winter, they cut the engine off the train before we could blow out the water system. By the time they got air back on the system, every valve was froze up. It was only about 10 degrees F
