I have heard that the CNW used their 2-8-4's on ore trains out of the Ironwood area mines.
I also believe that the LS&I has some 2-10-2's in addition to the consolidations. Think they were bought secondhand, possibly from the Wabash. But I wonder why so many of the consolidations survived after dieselization, but apparently none of 2-10-2's did.
In fact, why DID the consolidations escape being scrapped? In the early '70's I remember seeing some of the consols in the yard area just west of the ore dock in Marquette. I assume this is the location of Mark's original photo.
