Soo Line Snow Plow in the Copper Country
Posted by BC161 on 11/17/2011, 8:55 pm
I was cleaning out some old boxes from my MTU college days and found this photo clipped from a model railroad magazine from the late 1970s; photographer and exact location unknown. Best I can tell it was taken somewhere on the Soo Line in the Copper Country. The caboose is a wide vision cupola with red paint, which the Soo had. The octagonal flanger sign in the foreground is typical of what the Soo used.
Over the winter of 1978-79 Houghton received a record breaking 360 inches of snow that season, so the plows were surely kept busy. Winter and the snow will be soon be back in the U.P.
