WC actually wanted to reinstate the line when converting the SORE jobs to one man crews. The SuperPocket allowed trains to load without switching cars, and a spring switch would have allowed for running without a conductor. The plans never got beyond the talk stage.
From a retired CNW conductor, leaving via the south way, there was a steep grade the train had to climb and it took a quick run to catch the caboose after throwing the switch.
I followed the line back out of Palmer. Where the New Richmond Mine loader was there is still much trackwork left in, including a crossover diamond. It is sinking into the weeds/trees, but very interesting to see.
During my first ride on the WC, the track was still up to the mainline. By the time CN took over, the rail was pulled up and used elsewhere. Not sure how far they went in, but you could not see rail from the main.
Hopes this helps some.
