I'm new to this forum so I thought I'd introduce myself.
I'm from Germany and didn't know anything about the UP until my sister moved to Iron River. During my visits I got hooked with the railroads, those which are still there and the ones which disappeared. I was always interested in shipping so I was fascinated by the combination of ore being shipped by train to the docks and loaded onto the lakers. So my main interest is the LS&I but also the other railroads and the DM&IR but this road is of course a bit off topic.
In general I'm also fascinated by the variety of railroads and their own trackage. This is completely different to Germany. There is just the state railway with its network and just very few private railroads. Just in recent years some competitors appeared to the Deutsche Bahn but they use the existing network.
Enough for now and expect more questions than input from my side
