After not turning a wheel for almost a week, a Green Bay crew fired up the 501 and dragged about 76 buggies out of NGB, departing at 1210. The first three were covered hoppers for Oconto Falls. Following were about 39 storage cars. The balance of the train was "real" ELS freight which included 5 LPG loads for Crivitz, 2 blue bullet (MSDR) mts, another tank load (Methylene Phenyl something)and the balance were mt wood cars (ELS, CTRR). Anyone know where this Methylene Phenyl stuff goes? Caught them at Brown Road, Sobieski, Abrams and then Stiles Junction. Nice harmonic rock at 25 mph on those 60 foot ELS wood cars. Not surprisingly, the wood siding at Abrams appears dormant.
At Stiles junction the 501 set out the 3 CH's for the Falls. Then they moved over HWY 22 and switched out some storage tank cars from the north end of Stiles Siding. The south end of the siding still has a cut of those SOO 34 foot covered hoppers.
Took a side trip to the Falls. In the Industrial Park there were about 4 CSXT insulated box cars on the Warehouse siding. Coupled to the four were two WSOR (Wisconsin and Southern)insulated box cars. Interesting. On the Industrial Park "main" was another CSXT. North of the warehouse and over the crossiung was an mt CNA centerbeam and two more CSXT cars. The only car over at the Co-op was a fertilizer load.
When I got back to the junction the 501 was still switching the storage track so I headed back home at about 1430. This crew will be tying up in Crivitz and the ELS will be running a southbound back to Green Bay tomorrow. There is a load of plastic pellets that has been sitting at the Junction switch at Lineville Road for about a week. So, expect tomorrows job to make the run to the "end of the line" to spot it at NPS in Green Bay.
Now that the mill in Ontonagon is back up it will be interesting to see if the Intermodal Operation resumes.
