A question was asked further down the list about logging lines around Ontonagon. I'll start a new post because the old post was back a ways and might not get noticed.
Originally the Milwaukee Road had a line that ran west from Ontonagon, then turned south and ran to White Pine. Sometime in the 1920's (I think) they sold that line to a logging railroad, which must have been the one that used to be on display in Ontonagon.
That logging line ended in the 1930's and was removed. Around 1950 the Copper Range Company was investigating a new mine at the White Pine location. One of their thoughts was to rebuild on that old roadbed, operate it as an extension of the Copper Range railroad. They would have needed trackage rights over the existing MIlwaukee Road from McKeever to Ontonagon. Unfortunately the roadbed had already been washed out in enough places that the plan was determined to be unworkable.
The plan thtt was put into place was the DSS&A building north from Bergland. I've researched this quite a bit and have an article ready fro the "Soo Line" magazine, but it never seems to make it into print. I keep hoping. Anyway, that logging line is the one that was in question.
