These photos were taken at Pembine while we were waiting to get on the WC. I was the engineer on this train that took the engine, tender,and a flat car from Pembine to Wells. We had to go in the hole at Malacca to let a westbound pass and they asked us on the radio what the hell that was on the flatcars. I answered, "It's the new Wells switch engine."
The Village of Ontonagon gave the engine to the railroad to get rid of it due to the liability of the asbestos on the boiler jacket. It had been on display at the village marina across from the mill. The railroad trucked it to the crossing at the west end of the bridge and loaded it and the tender on flatcars while the log flat was loaded on a bulkhead flat.
