Things continue to deteriorate due to the economy collapse. All regular jobs have been abolished and are called when there is work to do. The Menominee-Marinette switch engine works maybe 3 times a week. The Channing-Crivitz and Green Bay-Crivitz jobs are now layovers in Crivitz. They made one round trip last week. The O&B saw a round trip Saturday-Sunday with a layover in Ontonagon. The Smurfit-Stone mill might re-open March 1, but I don't count on it. They filed for bankruptcy January 26. They got the financing to continue operations at their mills, but market conditions continue to worsen due to the drop in consumer spending. The Louisiana-Pacific mill at Sagola has taken down time since Christmas and they are not buying anymore pulpwood after Feb. 25th for at least a month so we will have no inbound cars for them. They are shipping OSB by rail. The other papermills that we send cars to in Wisconsin and Minnesota are cutting back on the amount of pulpwood they buy. We continue to receive cars for storage, but we will soon be filled up as the only space we have left is on the Marinette branch. More than half the railroad is collecting unemployment and I may soon join them.
