FD, I remember seeing the U25C's in yellow (as delivered) up until 1972, maybe 1973. They were then painted maroon, and 2501 got the red paint in 1985 or '86. I took a b&w photo of 2501 (I think) being painted in primer outdoors at the 'old' Eagle Mills engine house (The steel one or two stall building just south of CoRd 492) in the summer of 1985.
