Ore from the CN is generally shipped year round, since it goes on Lake Michigan from Escanaba. Shipping from Marquette (LS&I) ends for a while in the winter because the boats go via the Soo locks, which close for about two months.
I'm not sure whether the CN slows down much this time of year; one of the local posters would have a better idea.
