If I recall correctly, your assumption is correct, Andy. There was a company that made some sort of "cinder blocks" there. I've seen a Bob Anderson photo from 1966 that shows a couple of ex-South Shore Baldwins spotting a covered hopper over that chute. Certainly an interesting operation to toss into the daliy business of moving ore.
There was a bulk oil dealer just south of the dock, with several large storage tanks. I seem to remember that one had a large orange half-sphere on top. I don't know if that had something to do with what was in the tanks, or if it was just "cosmetic"...But it sure was distinctive. There was at least one track for loading/unloading tank cars, and i think there was a truck dock, too.
