My wife and I also took the train to Hearst in the mid 1980s....still running some limited ore down to the Soo from Hawk Junction then. Kind of interesting how they came into Hearst cab forward, then used a portion of the old CP? to back into the station. Got to know a couple of the oldtimers working the passenger train. Story from one is that the morning northbound sometime in the late 1970s mis-interpreted a meet order and was 4-5 miles from running into a soutbound freight train. Also,I believe there is a Algoma non-offical website with pics of lots of the equipment from the 1970s.
