Re: What exactly is Kearsley Junction and other questions
Ron, I remember going downtown as a teenager in the mid 60's, when all the stores were filled with businesses, and there was plenty of shoppers too. It was very common at that time for there to be a train or two going across Saginaw street during a 2 hour shopping adventure. I know the city of Flint mucky-mucks back then cringed at the railroad tracks being there, and it took them a very long time to convince C&O and GTW to pull the tracks out. They're biggest complaint was that the city was never going to move forward with active railroad tracks going thru the middle of downtown. Of course, this was prior to any "malls" being around either, which really became the downfall of downtown shopping as we knew it back then. And, if my memory serves me correctly, GTW got a good sized payment from the City of Flint for agreeing to pull their tracks out from Harrison street to Grand Traverse, a length of less than 10 blocks.
