Once in a while, I wander over to "the other site" where I'm not a registered poster...but I can read the information others post there...I want to put some information out there to a poster named Chapmaja, who asked a good question about the trackage past and present around the Fuller area of Grand Rapids, where there was an abundance of diamonds/mainlines/connecting trackage at one time. Poster Saturnalia does a pretty good job of explaining the how's and why's of the tangled mass of trackage that once was there. Perhaps, one of the most informational and visible map I've ever encountered on this area can be found on pages 150/151 in a book called "Evening Before The Diesel", a Grand Trunk Western book written by Charles Foster. This 1944 map is very detailed, to scale, and with extra information involving interlocking, railroad buildings, Interurban trackage, industrial building, and so forth. This entire book is a gem, a wealth of information is an understatement. The bad news is, this book is extremely hard to find, but getting your hands on one even in the used condition is in my opinion, a must for Michigan railfans. I know some of you post over on the railroadfan site, it might be of interest for someone to put this information over there, with my sincere blessing.
