It's on tracks owned by the State of Michigan. Yes, to indicate that the crossing protection is working properly as the train approaches the crossing.
But, I've wondered what instructions they have in their Time Table, it would be in the Special Instructions Section, in the event the light is not flashing as the train approaches.
"What is that extra light?" gets asked quite often by people watching the PM 1225 Trips out of Owosso.
