I didn't realize the DT&I interchange would have been so big at the time. It makes sense though as the railroad landscape has changed so much since then.
Is the "yard" that was in Carleton the 4 tracks which are south of the diamond (2 sidings and two mains). Also, where was the connection track between the DT&I and Chessie in Carleton? Was it in the NE Quadrant? That's the only place I can see where it would have made sense.
The reason I suspected the Lincoln secondary was I guessed that there was some traffic interchanged to Conrail that was coming from Saginaw and Flint.
